The padlock has long been an integral part of securing and protecting assets and as such is a critical element of many Technocover security solutions. To conform to required LPCB security rating classifications LPCB approved padlocks MUST be sourced and fitted*. Technocover products are designed to utilise such padlocks and offer enhanced protection of them.
In spite of a plethora of emerging technologies, good physical security such as that offered by padlocks remains central to the fight against crime and terrorism. A new LPCB standard (LPS 1654) has been developed to help with the selection of suitable padlocks.

Without the delay to intrusion provided by effective physical security, detection simply tells you that the criminal has been and gone. It is crucial that security managers and other specifiers can readily select security measures that deliver suitable delay against the tools and techniques likely to be used by determined criminals or terrorists.
LPCB Loss Prevention Standard LPS 1175 – Requirements and testing procedures for the LPCB approval and listing of intruder resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and free-standing barriers – does not cover the use of padlocks other than those listed on individual certificates. Testing of alternative padlocks is beyond the scope of LPS 1175.
LPS 1654 : Issue 1.1 – Requirements and testing procedures for the LPCB approval and listing of padlocks – addresses this by describing the requirements and test methods required for classifying the mechanical attack resistance provided by mechanically operated padlocks and padlock fittings such as hasps and shrouds, guiding padlock selection.
Padlocks that achieve LPCB approval to LPS 1654 have performed effectively in rigorous test programmes conducted by BRE’s highly experienced team of attack testers. The manufacturer’s production processes and supporting quality controls will also have been thoroughly evaluated.
Reassurance and Future Proofing
All Technocover Issue 7 products are approved with padlocks tested to LPS 1654: Issue 1.1
Among the reasons for developing LPS 1654, was LPCB’s view that the method of classifying the attack resistance of padlocks that is defined in the current European padlock standard (EN 12320) does not cover the range of tools and attack methods available to criminals. It is also not compatible with the classification system in LPS 1175.
Using physical access systems conforming to LPS 1175 in conjunction with LPS 1654 approved padlocks* provides effective third party certificated protection and reassurance.
