Visiting Whittington CE (VA) Primary, Near Oswestry, on Thursday 26th April 2018
When a local school contacted Technocover to see if we could help as part of an ongoing educational Transport project, we were more than happy to oblige.
Mrs Pool, a teacher at the school, contacted Technocover to see if we could help her class as part of their project plans, which, as well as looking at road transport, include looking at the local canal network with a horse drawn boat trip from Llangollen Wharf, now part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, and a visit to the Llangollen Railway with its steam and diesel locomotives.
One of the children in Mrs Pool’s class happened to mention that their Grandfather (Technocover’s Roger Tomley) was a lorry driver so the school made contact to see if it would be possible for us to visit with one of our delivery vehicles to bring their project more up-to-date.
Technocover arranged for Roger himself to take one of our 26 tonne Scania’s to the school and park it up in the playground. We were met by staff and excited children, many with great questions for Roger, and all wanting to climb inside the cab for a drivers’ view of the road. Once all had had the opportunity to take a look, the children headed off to a safe distance so that Roger could demonstrate how the lorries hi-ab is used to load and unload heavy items, which was one of the many questions to be answered.
It was a true pleasure to be able to take the vehicle to the school for what proved to be, we have since been told, a fantastic and memorable experience for all involved. Further to the visit we received an email from the EYFS Lead at the school thanking us for the visit, letting us know that they received much positive feedback from parents and how our visit really made for a positive learning experience for the children.
