The Technocover solution featured in this case study is an LPCB LPS 1175 SR3 UltraSecure enclosure measuring a finished size of 3,000 mm high x 5,460 mm wide x 6,000 mm deep designed with a removable roof that can be lifted off via lifting eyes fitted on top of the roof panels when required to meet operational needs.

The hot dip galvanised steel enclosure was manufactured and assembled at our Welshpool factory before being transported to the client’s site in two sections ready for craning directly over an existing GRP enclosure requiring a security upgrade. The effectiveness of the solution required high levels of accuracy from start to finish – from initial surveying and design through to final install, and ensured site time and any local disruption was kept to an absolute minimum.

The front aspect of the enclosure incorporated a twin-leaf door set providing key and lever entry and single action lever handle exit. Each door leaf was fitted with weather sealing, safety stay and alarm point. Also, in the front aspect was a low-level, internally lockable, hinged cable entry point, commonly known as a cat flap.

The enclosure was designed to include four louvre vents, two low-level at the rear and two high level to the front, each accurately aligned to allow required air flow through to existing vents in the GRP building. Mast brackets designed to meet customer specifications were also fitted to the outside of the new enclosure for the installation of remote telemetry communication equipment.

The concrete base on which the GRP enclosure was standing required extending to an overall footprint size of 5,710 mm wide x 6,265 mm deep to accommodate the enhanced security steel enclosure. This was performed using a purpose designed Technocover galvanised steel modular former system assembled on site. The open base formers, comprising of straights and return end units, were 300 mm high with the outer edge having a turned in top. All former units were bolt fixed to the outside edge of the existing base via top and bottom fixing straps and were concrete filled in situ.
