All Technocover Solo-Lift access covers have been
developed to comply with the Health and Safety Executive (H.S.E.)
Manual Handling Operation Regulations for single person operation.
Each cover lid is hinged and assisted with stainless steel torsion
springs or gas struts, the lid weight, with the spring assistance,
is always well within the maximum lifting H.S.E. directive for single
person operation - now essential for cost effective maintenance.
Developed for every location and can be specified in standard and
non-standard sizes, the range includes upstands, solid tops and
recessed, a range for every situation to comply with the HSE guidelines
for lifting, thereby enabling the specification of every cover type,
new and replacement, from one source.
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, which came into
force on 1 January 1993 come under the Health and Safety at Work
Act 1974 (HSW Act) and they implement European Directive 90/269/EEC
on the manual handling of loads. This Code of Practice has been
approved by the health and Safety Commission, with the consent of
the Secretary of State, under section 16 of the Health and Safety
at Work Act 1974 for the purpose of providing practical guidance
with respect to the provisions of the Management of Health and Safety
at Work Regulations 1992 and Sections 2,3 and 4 of the 1974 Act.
The maximum a male operative can lift is 25kg and a female operative
is only allowed to lift a maximum of 17kg (a third less than a male).
Manual handling of excessive weight has, in the past, amounted to
the largest percentage of industrial accidents/long term injuries,
with back sprain being 65%. Many millions of working days are also
lost through injuries caused by incorrect handling. Access Covers
have traditionally been a problematic area regarding their lifting
and lid removal and many devices, including hydraulic lifters have
been used for this purpose.
The Solo-Lift Access Cover Range is designed to meet the regulations,
with out the need for expensive specialist machinery and without
putting employers at risk of injury.
