Technocover - Total Service Case Study

Technocover supplied the cover systems as a complete concept-to-commission solution as part of its Total Service offering to customers, undertaking site surveys, risk assessment, design, manufacture and fitting.

David Leigh of United Utilities said: “This has been the largest and most complex tank cover system I have been involved with on a water site. As with their performance on other contracts, Technocover came up with the service, design support and product we required.”

The assemblies incorporate a number of apertures giving clearance for vertical equipment including the water mains pipe, airlines, scouring filters, gravity filters and the channels feeding them. Notches were provided through the side of the access frame for telemetry holes.

Beam, frame and cover details were also adapted to accommodate in-tank equipment such as telemetry sensors. The level of the grid in some of the personnel access hatches was lowered to avoid ultrasonics equipment.

While most of the outer frame of the assemblies was designed with in-turned flanges to conceal fixings, some sections of flange were turned out for installation beneath existing cable ducts.

Technocover also designed a special run of duct covers measuring in excess of 50 linear metres and negotiating a number of angles within its layout.

Again, the design incorporates special features such as cut-outs around equipment, a number of hinged inspection units and several 500mm high pipes to provide a mounting point for level sensors.

In accordance with BS EN ISO 1461: 1999, all components within the assemblies were hot dipped galvanised with a high quality Duragalv 70 (70 micron) zinc coating after manufacture.
